Save the date!

Meet Harold Camping. Harold is the founder of Family Radio and host of Open Forum, which you can listen to weeknights at 88.3 FM here in State College if you want a good laugh.

Harold is an elderly fellow with a soft voice and gentle demeanor. That is, until you give him grief about his belief that the Rapture is to take place on May 21, 2011, and that the world will end on October 21 the same year. Give him any sass or question his sanity, and the gloves come off.

Even most Christians think this guy is a clown. Albeit, a clown who thinks he's genuinely doing the right thing, but a clown, nevertheless.

A challenge for Mr. Camping: if you're so sure that the Rapture is set to take place on May 21 next year, I want you to send all of your money to my Paypal account on May 20th. If not that, then on May 22, 2011, I want you to give all of the money back to everyone you ever duped into believing your crap.

Okay, seriously, Gary...

By now you may have heard about Gary Faulkner, the Rambo wannabe who has his heart set on the capture and/or death of Osama bin Laden. He left the US to go to Afghanistan to find the OBL after being fed up by the failure of the US military to find and kill him. So Faulkner, being a Christian, boarded a plane with nothing more than a Bible and plastic handcuffs.

After arriving in Pakistan on June 3rd, he was escorted to a hotel where he was being detained, but he slipped out of the hotel unnoticed by authorities. Then he was summarily arrested by said authorities. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying a sword, a sidearm, and, of course, more Christian fundie writings.

Now, I can appreciate the eagerness to take on the poster boy for fundamentalist terrorism, but this is beyond laughable. Now millions of would-be patriotic Americans are hailing this clown as a hero.

Gary, if you're reading this, just what are you trying to prove? How do you think you're going to get OBL even when the most powerful military force on the planet has so far failed? How do you plan on getting through OBL's entourage with nothing more than a sidearm and a sword? Please come to your senses and go back home to your family and friends.

Personally, I think OBL is either dead or sipping a pina colada on some island right under our noses.

The cure for hiccups

Got the hiccups? I just found the perfect fix!

Wegman O's chocolate sandwich creme cookies and milk. Just a few and a small glass of milk. That's it.

Scary

Even after Sarah Palin shrugged her duties as the elected governor of Alaska only 18 months after she was sworn in, many Republicans still believe she's the GOP front-runner for the 2012 presidential election. A recent Gallup/USAToday poll revealed that approximately 72% of Republicans would vote for Palin. Keep in mind this is a woman who left Wasilla $20 million in debt, thinks that mankind walked side-by-side with dinosaurs, and ignorantly slammed the use of fruit flies for autism research. If she can't handle the position of governor, what makes you Repubs believe she's a quality candidate for Commander-in-Chief? Just think - this woman was one heart attack away from receiving the title of president.

When will you Repubs ever learn?

Even more (or less) surprising is her overall ignorance of the White House judicial system. In a recent interview with ABC News, she was asked if she could avoid the "political bloodsport" in Washington like she's tried to in Alaska, to which she responded:

“I don’t think it will be the day after day after day of ethics violation charges that are frivolous, that are ridiculous. I think on a national level your department of law there in the White House would look at this, the things we have been charged with, and automatically throw them out, not make somebody hire their own personal attorney to get out there and fight.”

By now you've probably heard this statement, and that there is no "department of law" in the White House. Even if there was a "department of law", it would have nothing to do with protecting the president.

Realizing that Sarah Palin isn't the most articulate woman in the world, I'm giving her the benefit of a doubt. But given her questionable decision making, that's a pretty tall order.

Watch this clip. If only Terry Tate were a science book.

Doomsday! Well, sort of.

All last week the History Channel aired series after series regarding the Mayan prophecies of 2012, Nostradamus, the Apocalypse, the top ten ways Earthlings will go the way of the dodo, and (queue doom-and-gloom music) the Apocalypse. One of the things that was mentioned to put the kibosh on all of us is the caldera under Yellowstone.

Well, what a coincidence. In my news list this morning is an article about earthquake swarms under Yellowstone Lake in Wyoming. Personally, I'm looking forward to the robot apocalypse. Offer your apocalyptic opinion; take the poll on the right toward the bottom of the page.

Can we just got on with it already?

This just in!

OK, folks, get this. Remember Sam Wurzelbacher? You know, Joe the Plumber? Apparently, he's made an appeal to President-elect Obama, imploring him to support Israel, come hell or high water. This is the same guy who agreed with the comment, "a vote for Obama is a vote for the death of Israel." Even Fox News' Shepard Smith took him to task over this. When Smith grilled Wurzelbacher over his knowledge of Obama's foreign policy, he was unable to defend himself and dropped the topic like a hot potato.

Mr. Wurzelbacher has apparently gone to Israel to fill us all in on the Israel-Hamas conflict, and to keep a sharp eye on Hamas. How a news anchor can report this story and keep a straight face is a mystery.

Hell hasn't officially frozen over just yet, but the temperature there has dropped dramatically.
